Cathy Jordan has lived in Belmont for over 25 years, raising her two daughters here. During that time, she has represented her community on the Belmont Redwood Shores Elementary School District Board of Trustees and the Belmont City Council. She currently serves as Vice-President on the Mid-Peninsula Water District Board of Directors. Cathy is the only person in the history of Belmont to serve on all three of those bodies.
Cathy Jordan knows how to work together to find the right solutions to the challenges facing Belmont. She has learned how to listen, collaborate, and lead. Cathy believes that a diversity of thought is a good thing. Working with people from different backgrounds and experiences gives decision-making the right grounding and vision. People can have different processes, but with a commitment to solving problems, we can arrive at a shared solution.
Belmont is facing important decisions about our future. How can we create a vibrant downtown? How will the HIA Annexation process provide the greatest value to Belmont? Belmont needs to build more housing. It has to be affordable to Belmont residents. We need better roads all around town and we must address traffic issues. And as always, public safety and economic development must be managed properly. Cathy Jordan has the right experience to lead Belmont through these issues.
Belmont has to manage its spending and revenues wisely to ensure that we remain in a strong fiscal situation. I will work to find the most responsible way to manage our city funds while delivering necessary services.
The City Council's first priority should be protecting and preserving our way of life. Belmont has a rich history of reliable and accessible police and fire services. I am dedicated to building on that tradition.
Belmont's a great town, but we all know traffic and roads are two issues that we must continually address. I want to continue to improve our roads in the most efficient way with Measure I dollars while looking for creative solutions to smooth traffic flow. As a former school board trustee, I look forward to working with BRSSD and SUHSD to provide the best experiences for our community.
As a community, we must work together to continue supporting and fostering sport and recreation. Preserving and enhancing our parks, open spaces, and recreational facilities remain a priority. Supporting the renovation of Barrett Community Center as well as developing a plan to modernize our sports fields to increase usability is an important component to our future.
